br>Also, did you know ...
Daniel ministered during the Babylonian captivity and prophesied the seventy weeks period, also called the seventy weeks of Daniel. In Daniel 9:24, he prophesied the period to start with the command to restore Jerusalem. Then after seven weeks and threescore and two weeks the Messiah would arrive. Keep in mind that in those times the term "week" had not originated. To the people of that time, it was meant as sets of seven, or seven sets of seven (equivalent to 49 years). Add the threescore and two weeks and you get 69 years.
br>So, when was the command given to start the seventy weeks? This is found in Nehemiah 2:1 that during the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes (445 BC). To be specific, the decree was given on March 14, 445 BC [Note that at the end of the first seven weeks, the restoration of Jerusalem was completed, or 445 BC minus 49 years brings us to 396 BC - the actual year the restoration was completed]. Now, if we look at the first seven weeks period and the threescore and two weeks, we get a total of 69 weeks, or 69 sets of 7 (equals 483 years). When we look at the Jewish year, which has 360 days in a year, this would equal 173,880 days. From the actual day of the decree to the coming of the Messiah would be 173,800 days, which calculates to His arrival on a donkey on April 6, 32 AD (see Zechariah 9:9 and Matthew 21:4,5). This arrival date is supported because Jesus began his ministries when he was about 30 years old, during the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar's rule (see Luke 3:1,21). Tiberius Caesar began his reign during 14 AD so Jesus began ministering during 29 AD. He continued ministering for another three years and eventually arrived in Jerusalem in 32 AD. Jesus had arrived nearby at Bethany six days before Passover (see John 12:1). Since Passover is celebrated on Nisan 14, this places His arrival in Bethany before Passover as April 4, 32 AD and the following Passover as April 10, 32 AD when our Messiah arrived in Jerusalem (see also John 12:12; Matthew 21; Mark 11).
Additional notes: Isaiah ministered 740-680 BC and wrote (chapters 44 and 45) that Cyrus would declare the building of the temple. Ezra 1:1 states that in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia that Cyrus proclaimed God told him to build a house in Jerusalem (see also II Chronicles 36:22). King Cyrus of Persia issued a decree in 538 BC allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem. Nehemiah 2:1-6 the proclamation to restore the Jewish capital was given by King Artaxerxes (king of Persia from 464-423 BC).
